Feeling Good is Looking Good

One
great beauty tip is Yoga. Yoga has many positive side effects. It helps
increase muscle strength, improve posture, reduce blood pressure, improve
brain circulation and short term memory, improve vision and quality of
sleep, alleviate depression and improves self esteem, to name a few.
Aside from feeling great Yoga can help fight the aging process by using
anti-gravity exercises. By doing inverted postures for a few minutes each
day, we reverse the effect of gravity and use it to our advantage. The
result is firmer facial muscles, which cause a reduction in wrinkles,
and a natural face-lift.
Standing Forward Bends - Uttanasana
• Instruction:
Place your palms on floor in front of knees. Turn your toes so your feet
are in line with the knees and hips. Inhale, take a breath up into your
chest. Exhale, draw navel towards the spine and bring yourself up to standing
with body folded forward. Keep knees and spine soft, with toes just slightly
pigeon-toed to broaden lower back and pelvis and aid flexibility in hips.
Keep even pressure on feet. Try and lift up through arches of your feet,
engaging up into pelvic floor for extra stability. Allow body to hang
over the legs to a level you are comfortable with and can control. Hold
and breathe for 3 to 8 breaths. Keep navel drawn in, giving room for body
to fold forward and protecting lower back while you do so.
• Variation:
As you exhale, straighten your legs but stay within your comfort range.
Do not hyperextend back of knee, keep quadriceps (thighs) up and engaged
by lifting knee and slightly releasing knee to engage back of your thigh
and create stability around your knee joint.
• Target Areas:
Strengthens abdominal and thigh muscles, stretches whole spine and backs
of legs.
• Benefits:
The inversion position brings fresh blood to your brain, oxygenating and
rejuvenating the mind. It also revitalizes the facial tissue, is excellent
for anti-aging and brings harmony and balance to your hormonal system.
By having your head lowered and torso tilted, any stress on the musculature
and organs of your torso is reduced. This brings about balance and efficient
functioning of all the bodily systems, creating an inner radiance.
