Since 2008 The Yoga Sanctuary has been a Certified Private
Educational Institute with the federal government. We are a fully accredited
Yoga Teacher Training school. This 250 hour Yoga Teacher Training is registered
and recognized with Yoga Alliance RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) of the
United States and the 200 hour Canadian Yoga Alliance CYT (Certified Yoga
Teacher). Our training program exceeds the requirements of both organizations.
Graduates will receive an official Tuition Fee and Education Textbook
Credit receipt. If you want further information, see the Information for
Students from Canada Revenue Agency, about Tuition, Education and Textbook
amounts.
Within this teacher training you will explore a rich tradition associated
with yoga practice and philosophy. It will serve as the foundational introduction
to a myriad of topics within the living tradition that is yoga.
A cornerstone of the course comes from our awareness that a strong personal
practice is the foundation for informative dynamic teaching. While it
is a bonus to have some prior asana experience, we are happy to guide
relatively “new to yoga” practitioners as well. Our faculty
will help to streamline your practice from our deep knowledge and understanding
of the poses.
Other YTT students with more experience, often have “aha”
moments and strive to change the way they utilize their bodies and practice
the poses. Everyone is unique and every “body” has its own
history, (from broken bones, to rods in their bodies). Knowing this, our
focus on personal development through self-practice is key. Our faculty
will offer kinesthetic, auditory and visual teaching techniques in our
attempt to reach, teach and inspire every YTT student as they embark on
this transformative course.
The course will include the following topics:
Asana, Assisting and Teaching Methodologies
• Learn the poses of the Primary Series of Ashtanga yoga as taught
by Shri K Patthabi Jois

Ongoing Support for Our Graduates
The Yoga Sanctuary offers different ongoing programs for graduates who
are interested in continuing with various aspects of their studies free
of charge.
Assisting Internship
The Yoga Sanctuary Assisting Internship program is available at each
of our locations. This internship offers new grads the opportunity to
assist in public drop in classes. Our Assisting program offers our new
graduates a platform in which to refine and enhance their new skill set
while being mentored by a senior teacher. A three (3) month minimum commitment
is required.
Teaching Karma Classes
The Yoga Sanctuary offers an opportunity for new graduates to teach one
of the weekly drop-in Karma classes for a one (1) month period. Karma
classes are offered at each location. This enables the student to obtain
valuable teaching experience in the setting of a yoga centre.
New Graduate Classes
The Yoga Sanctuary provides new graduates an opportunity to teach on
our public schedule! New graduate classes are taught in a Vinyasa style.
This program offers a three (3) month opportunity for graduates to build
their teaching experience within an established studio setting. These
classes are offered at each location of The Yoga Sanctuary.
Volunteer Positions
As a committed member of the community, The Yoga Sanctuary is requested
to participate in various single community events, often many teachers
are requested. We endeavour to call upon our new graduates to participate!
This adds yet another opportunity for grads to build their resume!

Cynthia
Funk: Cynthia is the co-owner of The Yoga Sanctuary. She received her
Yoga Teacher Training Certificate at Yoga Works in Los Angeles, studying
under the tutelage of Maty Ezraty, Chuck Miller, Eddie Modestini and Erich
Schiffmann. Cynthia began teaching in the greater Toronto area in 1997,
teaching in public schools, hospitals, private and public gyms, as well
as leading retreats on Ward's Island and in Northern Ontario.
In 2000, Cynthia studied in New York City and Boulder, Colorado with Ashtanga
guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. That same year she completed an Ashtanga Teacher
Training with David Swenson. As well, Cynthia studied extensively with
Toronto teacher Esther Myers. She has been blessed to have studied with
many of the other senior Ashtanga Yoga teachers in North America. For
the past 7 years Cynthia has taught The Yoga Sanctuary, Yoga Teacher Training
250 hour courses.
Sue
Ravazzolo: Sue's first experience with yoga occurred during a body movement
practicum in the Kinesiology Program at McMaster University. It was a
great discovery for a former gymnast seeking ways to enrich her body awareness.
The process of becoming immersed in the physical nature of yoga has opened
the door for Sue to the ancient and rich tradition that is yogic philosophy
as a whole.
The amazement and wonder that yoga evokes in
Sue have inspired her to share that experience with others. The path to
self-discovery is different for each individual, and with compassion and
joy, Sue wishes to share her love of this super cool practice of yoga
with anyone who will listen, so that they may acquire a similar love of
the tradition.
