This Weekend!
SANSKRIT, CHANTING AND THE BHAGAVAD GITA
Taught by Hali Schwartz

Saturday, March 13 & Sunday, March 14
Saturday, March 20 & Sunday, March 21

In this 20 hour course we will delve into the Sanskrit alphabet to learn its sacred sounds. The Sanskrit language has been called 'the language of the Gods' by the great saints and sages of the Indian subcontinent, and is the very cornerstone of our yoga heritage as we know it today. We will explore the sacred text, The Bhagavad Gita, and while learning its elegant and powerful message we will have a chance to practice chanting in the original Sanskrit!

Yin Yoga Teacher Training
by Cathy Keenan

LotusI've been putting my heart and soul into preparing a Yin Yoga Teacher Training that starts April 9, 2010. This is a practice intended to compliment a more active lifestyle. Its focus is on deep, long held stretches aimed at opening the hips and low back and thus stimulating the connective tissue in our joints. These are the areas of the body, it is believed, that store our deeper blockages and through gently opening and stimulating these tissues, we bring them more life (Qi).

It is a practice that can be deep and intense where the postures are held for several minutes. As time unfolds we courageously learn to explore and befriend all those places we've been neglecting for so long. We are cultivating new and healthy relationships with ourselves and our bodies.

The focus of this course is to understand Yin Yang theory, understand our anatomy more intimately, explore the meridians and chakras and how to improve the overall health of our organs. You will learn to develop a language for teaching this practice to your students or simply how to get deeper into your body. We will learn the philosophy and psychology behind Yin Yoga, explore the postures and dive deep into our creative abyss. It's like poetry for the body.

With great respect,
Cathy

Cathy teaches Yin/Yang yoga classes at the Danforth studio Monday and Yin on Wednesday nights at 7:10pm and Yin/Yang Saturday at 3:15pm. She is also co-teaching a 30 hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training course with Cynthia Funk in April 2010.

Mantra for March
Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha
Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi
Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat

The Gayatri mantra is called the essence of all mantras. All spiritual powers and potencies are contained, hidden within it. Practiced by Hindus and Buddhists alike, the Gayatri is a meditation on spiritual light. When use over a prolonged time, the Gayatri also builds a cumulative quality of protection referred to as "spiritual armour."
