YIN YANG YUM
Balancing Mobility & Stability with Cora Wen
Friday, Feb 19, Saturday, Feb 20 & Sunday, Feb 21
$225.00

Cora WenOne of the most important aspects of Yoga is to develop balance in body, mind and spirit. We look for flexibility in the body and mind, while developing strength and stamina to ease through life.

Cora will bring the Chinese wisdom of Yin and Yang into your practice and show the interconnected, interdependent ways to harmonize mobility and stability. A body can be very flexible, but not able to control it, or very strong and stable but not have enough mobility and range.

Yin and Yang are complementary opposites within a greater whole, and everything is both, constantly interacting and collaborating. Cora will show her playful and “sneaky” sequences to show you how to find your Yin Yang YUM Yoga..!

To make use of what is here, you must make use of what is not.

Yin is In!
by Cathy Keenan

Cathy KeenanSeveral years ago I fell in love with this practice. I was your typical "A" type personality who thrived off of stress and enjoyed being busy, even at the expense of my own health. If given a choice between resting or moving regardless of how I felt, I would always choose the latter.

When I was introduced to Yin I was intrigued. This was a slow form of yoga that packed a punch of intensity. Okay I admit that I wrestled with the 5 minute holds because my mind anxiously wanted to keep moving and my body would nervously fidget, and yet there was a guilty pleasure in not having to accomplish anything. All I needed to do was take the shape of the pose, relax and let time do the rest. Even though my body and mind fought the intensity and stillness of these postures when the practice was finished I felt expanded, lighter, more centred and calm. Not bad for a practice that focused on stillness. It was deceptively challenging and hugely liberating.

I crave the Yin practice, especially when I am feeling stressed or exhausted. I recognized that as with everything in life there is a delicate balance between expending energy and replenishing it. And in order to replenish my reserves, all I needed was to be simply given permission "let go".

In the last year I've noticed a growing interest in the Yin practice. I've had many students tell me what a difference it has made to their physical and mental health. More and more people are starting to recognize the benefits of slowing down and how good it feels to stretch themselves into stillness. Yin is definitely in!

Cathy teaches Yin/Yang yoga classes at the Danforth studio Monday and Wednesday nights at 7:10pm and Saturday at 3:15pm. She is also co-teaching a Yin Yoga Teacher Training course with Cynthia Funk in April 2010.
