DJ Yoga & Solstice Party
with Derek Beres & Richard ‘medicineman’
Martin
Saturday, June 20 at College Street
Building
on the success of last fall’s packed out class,
New York City teacher and EarthRise Yoga founder
Derek Beres returns to Toronto to team up with CIUT’s
medicineman for a summer solstice party to remember.
Join
Beres for a high energy, 90 minute flow class focused
on tuning the nadis for those long summer nights,
with plenty of backbending and balancing to attune
the yogi’s inner warmth with the energy of
the season. Medicineman heats things up from behind
the DJ decks, creating a globally infused soundtrack
to elevate, soothe and inspire.
After
the class, hang around and invite some friends,
as the pair tag teams for an ethnogroove dance party
long into the night.

Sunday
June 21 @ Danforth Ave ~ 7:00 to 8:30pm

Chanting
brings Light and focus to my meditation seat. It
washes away the irrelevant, clears the inner sky,
and deepens the soul.
A
joyful opening of voice, heart, mind, breath and
spirit in a warm and supportive atmosphere. Add
new depth and dimension to your Yoga practice and
your LIFE! You don't need to know Sanskrit. You
don't need to know how to sing. With bhajans (devotional
songs), chants, singing in Hindi, Sanskrit, and
English, in a call and response format will let
the spirit flow in co-creative synergy.
It
is a great joy to hear the expression of open hearts
radiating the energy of peace and delight into our
lives and into this world.

Yoga
"OM" Work
The
purpose of Yoga "Om" Work is to add some
interesting little awareness into our practice all
month long!
Try
brushing your hair 90% of the time with your non-dominant
hand. Take note of the speed, the tension in your
hand and the new awareness you have of the shape
of your head!
~

Happy
Father's Day
Practice
with Dad! Bring your father in for a free class
during the month of June! Introduce him to a new
way of moving, breathing and connecting to himself
and others. |
Musings
The
work never ends. There is always something else
to do and I think it is important to understand
how we approach the idea of work with with our minds
and attitudes. Having an attitude of joy while we
"work" brings sukha or sweetness into
our practice and into our lives. It makes drudgery
a think of the past, as we cultivate an attitude
of positivism into our work.
A
world of opportunities to support that attitude
now comes into play. IN the physical body, a relaxed
tongue at the roof of our mouth helps to relax the
entire body and supports sukha.
A
relaxed mind brings us to a place of tuning into
the proprioceptors*, the positive vibes, and getting
away from the nociceptors (usually causing the perception
of pain) agitations of our mind.
Bring
joy into any concept of "work" this month
and see where it takes you!
~
Cynthia
*Proprioceptor:
A sensory receptor, found chiefly in muscles, tendons,
joints, and the inner ear, that detects the motion
or position of the body or a limb by responding
to stimuli arising within the organism. |

Food Blessing

This
food comes from the labours of beings past and
present. From this, our body/mind is nourished,
our practice sustained. Gratefully we accept this
meal.
This
is followed by bowing and saying "chal mokkes
somnida" (Korean for "I will appreciate
this food.") |

"Do
you have to think specific positive thoughts about
your body in order for your body to be the way
you want it to be? No. But you have to not think
the specific negative thoughts. If you could never
again think about your body and, instead, just
think pleasant thoughts - your body would reclaim
its place of Well-being.
