Asana
with Helen and Mari - Kirtan with Kelvin
In
2005, Helene Armbrust went to India as a volunteer teacher
to teach English in a vocational school for for underprivileged
young men and women. She met Joice, a board member of
the organization, and her husband Selva who introduced
her to their plans to open a daycare for the women in
KodaiKanal. As a teacher and a person, I thought the project
was a highly worthwhile investment and agreed to help
them.
The
women of KodaiKanal carry fire logs all day long. Most
of them are single mothers forced to do this work to support
their children. Although they work long and hard, they
barely make enough rupees (money) to sustain themselves
and their children.Their children are left at home without
food, toys or supervision. .
Our
goal this year is to raise $500. This amount will support
the cost of 5 children attending the daycare for one year.
This includes a cup of milk and a lunch everyday, as well
as supervision and early childhood education. The daycare
is for 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 year olds.
Please
come and support this fundraiser. It will be a big deal
to those five kids.
