Anusara Yoga for Advanced Practitioners & Teachers
with Louise Hanly at College Studio
Thursdays, October 18 to November 29

Anusara is a hatha yoga system developed by John Friend that unites a joyful celebration of the heart with powerful principles of alignment, to unfold the grace and beauty that is the essence of being human. Anusara is a Sanskrit word which means "follow your heart", "flowing with grace". When we follow our heart we meet the challenges of asana on the mat with compassion and humour.

We learn to embrace all of ourselves, to see the good and refine and enhance the beauty within. Cultivating the virtues of the heart on the mat helps us meet the challenges we encounter off the mat with an open heart. Flowing with grace facilitates a profound inner relaxation that accompanies fearlessness. This release from fear is what precipitates the full flowering of the heart and promotes the softened perception of the world which allows us to be become sensitive to the eternal presence: radiant peace and blissful love.

Lauren Anastasi ~ Teacher of The Month
Lauren is having a FREE CLASS at the Danforth Studio
on October 17th, 5:30-7pm

LaurenMy interest in yoga began in 1998 when my first yoga teacher Annette Tersigni reminded me to breathe. A student of Psychology, I became fascinated by the mind-body connection. This interest evolved into awareness and acceptance of the body as divine, wonderful imperfections and all. Realizing this, fosters self awareness, self-respect and a connection with one's intuition. Compassion for oneself transforms into compassion towards others. Energy is infectious. There is a spiritual and energetic quality yoga elicits no matter one's reason for approaching the practice.

I feel very privileged to have found yoga and to now share it with others. My yoga practice and studies of yoga philosophy continue to be part of my therapy. I hope to share this beautiful practice with people to foster peace, courage, and compassion.

I completed The Yoga Sanctuary's Teacher Training program with Cynthia Funk and Jonathan Austman in 2004, Pre-Natal Yoga Teacher Training with Cynthia Funk in 2005, Kids Yoga Teacher Training with Maalaa of Yoga Tree in 2006, Restorative Teacher Training with Hali Schwartz in 2006, Philosophy with Hali Schwartz and Meenakshi Marla Joy 2006/2007 and Advanced Yoga Teacher Training with Karusia Wroblewski, Cynthia Funk, Felicia and Ante Pavlovic, Menaka Desikachar and Michael Sidall.

I was a Teaching Assistant in the 2006/2007 Yoga Teacher Training at The Yoga Sanctuary. Currently I am teaching group classes across the city, corporate classes, office yoga at administrative conferences, small groups and private sessions. Ongoing studies include Yoga Teacher Training at Esther Myers and Organizational Psychology at York University. "Don't forget to breathe."

Musings

Last month we held two events for the Global Mala Project. Over 30 people attended and we donated $350 dollars for Trees for the Future! Hurray for us, I am proud that a small forest of trees will be planted from our collective efforts at The Yoga Sanctuary!

Did you know by purchasing a Harmony Yoga Mat that a tree will be planted for you from Trees for the Future? It is amazing that so many are doing their part in giving back the earth her lungs, the trees. Why not practice the tree posture today and think upon the beautiful gift that the trees and plants of the earth give us - oxygen.

If you have never been to the Global Mala site please do! www.globalmala.com I love the music on the site from Ziggy Marley. I look forward to participating next year.
