Backbending into Bliss
with Karusia Wroblewski @ Danforth
Saturday, July 21 - 3:15 to 10pm & Sunday, July 22 - 3:15 to 7:15pm
AYTT 10 Hour Training Module ~ $200 + GST

Using Natarajasana as a template let's dive into the ecstasy of backbending. Nataraja is the Divine Dancer who rides the waves of cosmic energy. During this weekend we will analyze the elements of backbends from a number of perspectives. We will look at anatomy and preparatory poses that stretch, strengthen, awaken and balance the core and the limbs helping those with back issues.

We will use our understanding of the chakras and five elements in order to explore and align the psycho-emotional components of these postures. As well we will incorporate aspects of Shakti Yoga dance flows to awaken the inner juiciness that will make our backbends shine.

For seasoned practitioners.

Namaste yoginis and yogis!

We are familiar with asana, breathwork and even meditation as forms of yoga. There is also the path of bhakti yoga, often called yoga of devotion. It is a path of opening up your heart to the Divine at all times. There is also the path of nad yoga, known as the yoga of sound and energy vibration.

Kirtan is an expression of both bhakti and nad yoga. You are in a state of devotion and the vehicle for its expression is music and sound. Not to mention that singing is deep breathing!

You begin seated for meditation. The leader (or kirtan walla) chants a line and the group sings it back. The singing is backed up by musicians and instruments and one chant might be repeated for a long time, gathering energy and then subsiding. And if the spirit moves you, you might start rocking, swaying, clapping or even get up and dance. Most of the chants are in Sanskrit and evoke different gods, goddesses and emotional places. In this kirtan you can expect to hear chants in English as well. Durga Das represents a generation of fusion kirtan wallas: those who blend the East and the West in their sound and in a big heart.

Reasons to go to a Kirtan:
You love to sing in the shower or car.
You're curious about bhakti and nad yoga.

This will be a beautiful event.

Musings on Synchronicity

It is always interesting how life happens, isn't it?

I had a phone conversation with Daniel Zstar, who let me know that due to unforeseen events, that he would be unable to continue to teach at our College location for the summer schedule. The very next day I was told that Josh Babier had just arrived back from Peru and was looking for work! How interesting I thought - one door closes and another one opens!

We are VERY happy to announce that Josh will be teaching Ashtanga Level 1/11 at College Street on Monday 1:30-3:00pm, Thursday 3:30-5:00pm and Sunday 10:00-11:30pm.

Welcome back Josh!
