February 2007 - Vol.5 #2

Experiential Anatomy 20 Hour Module @ Danforth
Saturday, Feb 24 - 3:15-10:15 pm ~ Sunday February 25 - 5:15-9:15 pm
Saturday, March 24 - 3:15-10:15 pm ~ Sunday March - 5:15-9:15 pm

For this course, we will experience anatomy directly in our postures as we practice them. In the first weekend we will concentrate on the area from the sole of the foot to the navel; in the second, from the navel to the crown. The Chakra system (subtle anatomy) will be included as a way to deepen our understanding of the interdependence of the physical and the psycho-emotional bodies.

Kirtan: Interactive Devotional Chanting
at The Danforth Avenue Yoga Sanctuary

Sunday, February 11
7:00pm-9:00pm

Kailash leads us in the interactive devotional chanting practice of Kirtan, call-and-response-chanting. Kirtan is accepted as one of the surest paths to enlightenment. The singing is accompanied by rhythmic drumming that transports the chanters to profound spiritual realms

These chants, which find their inspiration in the Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian wisdom traditions, are vehicles for the expression of devotion to Source. Using the very breath of life to direct and expand attention and affection toward the Infinite is a profound spiritual technology for putting an end on our self-imposed suffering. Singing love songs to our own Highest Ideals helps us to align our hearts and minds with that which is best in ourselves.

Kailash is a disciple of Bhagavan Das. His teaching is based on the belief that among the most important things we can learn is how to harness and redirect the twin processes of attention and affection. By selecting a worthy focus for our attention and affection - those things that inspire us to greater wisdom, compassion, creativity, beauty, and excellence - we necessarily elevate the quality of our lives.

Kirtans are designed to equip participants with practical tools for achieving happiness and overcoming life's challenges. Kailash is always full of energy and inspiration, so come and get your chant on.

Air and Water

Just a few thoughts about the breath. We breathe all day and all night long. Many yoga teachers, from time to time, will focus on the length and depth of the breath but for the most part, we are blissfully unaware of it! Late one night Kimberley and I were talking about breath and how all 6 billion people on the planet are breathing! And we are all sharing the same air. WOW!

Then I was thinking about what we are thinking when we are breathing and how much of our bodies are made up of water and how we are like little drops of water….and our breath combined with our thoughts send out little ripples.

And our bodies are mostly water. The amount of water in a human body depends on age, gender, body type, and level of physical activity. The body of an adult male is approximately 62 percent water, while an adult female is 51 percent water. The body is the conductor of all our thoughts and the breath is the bridge.

We can affect each other in a positive way if we focus a little more on our breath and what we are thinking and thus we can change the bigger picture.

I am so happy that millions of people around the world like us, yoginis and yogis are evolving our breath awareness and thinking processes! Hurray for us!

Namaste,
Cynthia and Kimberley
