Green Steps at The Yoga Sanctuary Taking action for clean, green power The Yoga Sanctuary is committed to do our part to help fight global warming and create a healthier environment. We chose Bullfrog Power as our electricity provider, choosing green, carbon-free power. Founded in 2005, Bullfrog Power is a leading provider of 100% green electricity, with service available to Ontario and Alberta residents and businesses. Together we can help clean up our air quality, and support the local development of renewable energy. Electricity generation is a leading industrial source of carbon dioxide, a primary greenhouse gas linked to global warming and climate change. To solve the problem of climate change, we all need to consider carbon emissions and make continued efforts to reduce them wherever possible. We immediately reduce our carbon footprint by choosing green energy suppliers. But what is a carbon footprint? A Carbon Footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. For more information on how to reduce your impact on the environment visit Carbon Footprint. Buy a green yoga mat, plant a tree “The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit." ~ Nelson Henderson, Author Harmony Yoga Mats from JadeYoga are available at The Yoga Sanctuary. Harmony is green, constructed of natural rubber from a renewable resource, tapped from rubber trees. This mat contains no PVC or ozone depleting substances - perfect for the yogi concerned about the environment. JadeYoga, makers of the Harmony yoga mat, has entered into a partnership with Trees for the Future. For every JadeYoga Harmony yoga mat sold, one tree will be planted. Choose at least one day a week to eat a
meat-free meal Since 1960, some 25% of Central America's rain forests have been burned and cleared to create pasture for beef cattle. It has been estimated that every four ounce hamburger made from rain forest beef destroys 55 square feet of tropical rain forest. In addition, raising cattle contributes significantly to the production of three gases which cause global warming, is a leading cause of water pollution, and requires a staggering 2464 gallons of water for the production of each pound of beef. It only takes 29 gallons of water to produce a pound of tomatoes, and 139 gallons to produce a one pound loaf of whole wheat bread. Nearly half of the water consumed in the United States goes to the growing of feed for cattle and other livestock." ~ VegSource.com By eating a vegetarian meal at least one day a week you can walk more softly on the planet. Check out our Recipes. Skip the paper, save some trees! How many millions of trees are cut down each year to make paper? Instead of picking up handouts, use our web site to check the schedule, workshop and pricing information. And some simple steps to help our planet... The Yoga Sanctuary uses compact fluorescent light bulbs. Did you know that an ENERGY STAR ENERGY STAR® labelled compact fluorescent light bulb use 75 percent less energy than an incandescent bulb. They use less electricity and last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. We also use biodegradable and nontoxic yoga mat spray, air filters, VOC paint and green cleaning products to reduce toxins and pollutants. Four years ago we painted with Farrow and Ball paint and of late, this past summer, we painted with the Sico paint, that is also environmentally friendly. We removed our carpets from the change rooms at Danforth as they were off-gassing and we now have eco-friendly tile. So take action for our environment!! You can make a difference.
